Te Wiki o te Reo Māori is an annual celebration for all New Zealanders to show their support for the Māori language.

Our Selwyn Libraries are showing their support by offering events and sharing some of their favourite phrases in Te Reo Māori during Te Wiki o te Reo on their Facebook page.

Learn about Selwyn’s kaitiaki taniwha, Tū Te Rakiwhānoa in Taniwha Storytime, at the following times and locations:

  • Friday 13 Sept 10-10.30am, Darfield Library
  • Tuesday 17 Sept 10–10.30am, Te Ara Ātea
  • Thursday 19 Sept, 10-10.30am, Lincoln Library
  • Friday 20 Sept 10-10.30am, Leeston Library

On Thursday 19 September from 6.30-7.30pm at Te Ara Ātea, learn about the early mapping of Māori place names in the Selwyn region and the stories that have brought this history to life.
