Waikirikiri Selwyn is taking part in the Christchurch Heritage Festival this year by encouraging residents to support various activities and events run by Selwyn Libraries and community heritage groups in our district.

Our first event: History in stone: Springston cemetery tour has proven to be popular and is now fully booked.

Don’t miss out on Selwyn Libraries’ second cemetery event; Cemeteries of Selwyn, from 2pm on 16 October at Te Ara Ātea where Selwyn historian and genealogist Lynda Seaton will talk about the history and iconography of our local cemeteries.

To continue our journey of the past, on 13, 20 and 27 October from 1pm, you can head along to Glentunnel Museum to learn more about the area’s history, the coal, clay and sand mines in the Malvern area, the lives of our early settlers and more.

Explore the history of sporting and leisure activities presented by Prebbleton Heritage Inc, at Prebbleton Public Hall on 18 and 19 October, or walk back in time by joining members of the Arthur’s Pass Heritage Group on a guided tour of the alpine village’s unique history from 1pm on 26 October.
